8 Things You Can Do When You’re Just Unhappy

There are moments in life when you feel unhappy for no obvious reason and it seems everything in your life is so wrong. In fact, this happens to all people, including the most positive people. Don’t just wait out this bad period in your life, take the matters into your own hands instead. Take a look at the list of the things you can do when you’re unhappy for no reason.

Things to Do When You're Just Unhappy

1. Let go of everything that makes you unhappy

If you’re not happy with your life, start changing it. Make a list of the things and people who make you unhappy and consider the ways to make your life brighter and happier. Remove toxic friends from your life, quit the job you don’t like, drop negative thoughts, in one word, leave behind everything and everyone that make you unhappy. Learn to be grateful for everything you have in life now and let go of the past.

2. Take a break

If you feel unhappy and you don’t know why, take a break and find out the reason. Maybe you’re just tired and you need to relax, or maybe someone makes your life miserable. Focus on your mental state and set all your problems aside. Go for a walk and enjoy the nature, meditate or exercise. Spend some quality time alone to refresh, relax and renew. If someone makes your life unhappy, remove them from your life no matter who they are.

3. Take a few steps back

If you feel unhappy, take a few steps back and reflect on everything you’ve done in life. Maybe you need to make some changes in your life or maybe you need to change your lifetime goals and set new ones. It can be hard to change something, but if this will make you a much happier person, don’t be afraid to challenge yourself.

4. Make other people happy

I know how it’s difficult to help other people when you can’t even help yourself, however it’s one of the best things you can do when you are just unhappy. Making people around you happy can actually be beneficial for both parties. You won’t simply make others feel better, you will feel better yourself.

5. Watch a comedy

Instead of watching a tragic love story, watch a funny movie to boost your mood. Laughing will definitely make you feel better. Plus, you will have a great opportunity to forget about your problems, even if it’s only for a while. It’s been proven that faking a smile can make you feel much better in no time. So, fake it until you make it.

6. Surround yourself with positive people

When you feel down, try to spend more time with people who make you smile and happy. They will help you forget about your worries, boost your mood and feel happy again. Remember, life is too short to spend your time with those who make you unhappy. If you have toxic friends, it might be the perfect time to end your friendships.

7. Volunteer

Volunteering is one of the best tips I can give you when you feel unhappy for no reason. Animal shelters, orphanages, nursing homes always need someone’s help. You don’t have to be a qualified or experienced person and you don’t have to have money to volunteer. Just do it sincerely and you will feel better and happier in no time. When I feel down, I love to feed homeless animals as well as birds. Although I can’t adopt them since I have lots of different pets at home, I know that they are not hungry. I often see homeless people who feed homeless animals, and when I see those smiles and happiness I understand that you can be rich and happy even without home and money.

8. Take a mental break from reality

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a break from reality and let yourself daydream. It’s okay to spoil yourself with a short mental vacation every now and then. This mental break will give you some insight into your situation and can even help you solve the problems that you’re facing now.
Just like Dean Koontz said, “No one can grant you happiness. Happiness is a choice we all have the power to make.” It’s up to you to decide whether to be happy or unhappy. Try to see things from a positive perspective and change your attitude towards life. When you feel unhappy, what do you do?
