Eddie is a self-confessed paedophile and is attracted to children as young as five. He is hoping his mother is proud of him for coming clean on national TV when she sees him on tonight’s episode of The Paedophile Next Door.

Eddie, 39, is not exclusively attracted to children and finds women of all ages attractive. He says paedophiles like him suffer alone and go unnoticed in the community. He wants them to be able to speak out and get help before their desires are realised.

Coming clean to his estranged mother in a letter penned during tonight’s show, he wrote:
“Dear Mum,
There’s no easy way to say this so I’ll just come out with it,
I guess the word paedophile comes with a lot of baggage so it will be difficult for you to read that this is a relevant description for me…
It’s important for you to know that I’ve; never had any sexual contact with a child despite many opportunities.  I honestly think I couldn’t do it and I don’t want to do it.
I concluded some time ago that all I can do as a result of my situation is to try hep others who are experiencing similar thoughts and feelings to what I’ve had and reduce sexual abuse of children in a meaningful way.”

‘I would like to think she would be proud of me in a little way for doing what I know is right,’ he added afterwards.

Elsewhere in the Channel 4 documentary Eddie explains that he was ‘genuinely distressed and worried’ when he first discovered he was a paedophile in his mid-twenties
‘At the time Sarah Payne had just been raped and murdered so there was understandably hysteria,’ he said. ‘And you immediately assume that every paedophile is a rapist and that you’re going to do something bad…

‘People automatically assume that at some point you will abuse a child and that there’s no way of helping you.’

Eddie hopes that by coming out men like him will be more readily offered support to manage their unwanted desires.
