Some would argue that this is a waste of taxpayers’ money.
But a world where fire departments don’t save animals from lofty heights isn’t a world I want to live in.
So let’s salute this Cornish fire crew, who closed down a high street in Penzance to rescue a trapped pigeon.
The RSPCA gave them a call when the bird became tangled in anti-roosting netting.
Traffic was blocked for 15 minutes. No one died.
