Pique dismisses Manchester United rumours: I'm happy at Barcelona

The 27-year-old centre-back has started just three La Liga games this season but insists he wants to see out his career at Camp Nou

Gerard Pique has dismissed rumours of a possible return to Manchester United after insisting that he would be happy to spend the remainder of his career at Barcelona.

The 27-year-old has started just three of Barcelona’s seven La Liga games this season and has been linked to a move away from the Catalan side. He was also left on the bench throughout the 3-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

But despite a lack of playing time this term, Pique maintains he has no plans to leave the Spanish club.

"I love this club for its history, its style of play and its connection to Catalunya," he told FourFourTwo.

"I love it here. I am at the best club in the world right now. I have no intention of leaving now or later. I've just signed a new contract and I want to retire a Blaugrana, just like [Carles] Puyol did.

"You never know what the future holds, but right now, I love this city, I love the people in the club, and most importantly, I love the institution. I don't see myself leaving."

Pique was also asked to compare Xavi with former Manchester United team-mate Paul Scholes.

"You cannot make me choose between them!” said the Spain international. “You could say Xavi because of international titles, but the two of them are technically amazing."
